Local Tankless Water Heater Service
Is it better to opt for a new tankless water heater installation or repair your current system? Factors we’ll consider include age and condition. If your system is younger than 15 years and in reasonably good condition, repairs are often cost-effective.
If the repair bill is substantial, we may recommend replacement regardless of the device’s age. We’ll lean toward replacement when the repair cost will be 50% or more of what a new system would cost.
Some of the most common issues with on-demand water heaters are related to power. Even gas models use electricity, as they have electric ignition systems. You may experience a water heater that intermittently shuts off or trips the circuit breaker. You can reset isolated tripped circuit breakers, but don’t keep resetting them. That indicates a more serious electrical problem, and continued resets could cause significant damage to the water heater and pose a fire risk. The problem can stem from a faulty wire, a defective control board, or the system overheating.
Limescale is another common problem that homeowners deal with. There are minerals in your water supply that can leave behind deposits over time. That scale can build up on and in components, including valves, tubes, and pipes.
Scale on the heating element can result in higher energy consumption and inconsistent water temperatures. Accumulation in tubes can lead to longer delays in hot water and lower hot water pressure. Often, the solution is descaling. This is where we use a recirculating pump to cycle a cleaning agent through the water heater.
Watch for the signs you may need a tankless water heater repair or replacement:
- Long hot water delays
- Intermittent power failures
- Leaking or excess condensation
- Reddish or otherwise discolored hot water
